Ademola Lookman was the star of the show as the Italian club Atalanta qualified for their maiden UEFA Europa League final against Olympique Marseille.

The 26-year-old, who has been on a brilliant run of form since the start of the season, lit up the scene with a well-taken strike in the 30th minute off an assist from Charles De Ketelaere.

The Nigerian forward would later turn provider, playing full-back, Matteo Ruggeri, through on goal with a deft pass to double the lead for the Bergamo club.

Atalanta would eventually wrap up the tie with another goal from El Bilal Toure in the 95th minute of the fixture. However, it was Lookman's performance on the night that caught the attention of many.

The forward, with his goal, matched a feat previously held by a few Nigerian players who had enjoyed success in the Europa League.

Lookman matches new feat

With his goal against Marseille, Lookman became the fourth Super Eagles forward to score in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The 26-year-old joins an illustrious list that features Nwankwo Kanu, Victor Ikpeba, and Victor Moses, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.

Kanu achieved this feat after he found the back of the net for Arsenal in their semi-final tie in 2000 against French club, Lens.

Ikpeba also found the back of the net against AC Milan for Monaco in 1998. Moses also joined this exclusive list after Chelsea’s victory over Basel at Stamford Bridge in 2013.

Following what was a record-setting night for Lookman, the 26-year-old will now shift his attention to clinching victory as he eyes maiden silverware with the Bergamo club against Bayer Leverkusen.

Lookman nominated for Europa League prize

In another report, Sports Brief highlighted Lookman’s performance in the Europa League for Atalanta, which has earned the Super Eagles winger a nomination for the Player of the Week award.

The 26-year-old forward was instrumental in Atalanta’s impressive victory against Olympique Marseille in the Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday night.
