With Carlo Ancelotti's men continuing to make history, Sports Brief looks at the players in the squad of African descent.

5 Madrid stars with African heritage

Antonio Rudiger

The no-nonsense defender may represent Germany at a national level but has Sierra-Leonean heritage.

Rudiger's mother hails from the West African country and the player is proud of his roots.

Football Sierra Leone reported that the former Chelsea defender opened a foundation in the country that helps underprivileged individuals.

He's also used his money to fund free education and sponsor life-changing surgeries.

Ferland Mendy

French international Mendy has become a familiar face at left-back for Madrid and has won nine trophies with the team.

He's also won a trophy with the French national team, the country of his birth.

While he was born in France, Mendy is actually of Senegalese descent.

He is also the cousin of Senegal goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy.

David Alaba

Austria's Alaba was spoilt for choice when it came to picking a national team.

Born in Austria, he could have represented Nigeria, where his mother is from, or the Philippines, where his mother originated from.

He chose the European side and has been named captain of the squad, but he is still close to his African heritage.

GOAL noted that Alaba has also given back to the country's people by donating an ultra-modern biodegradable toilet facility in Ogun State.

Eduardo Camavinga

Also a French international player, Camavinga joined the Spanish outfit from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

Unlike some of the other players in the squad, who weren't born in Africa, Camavinga was.

Marca reported that the Madrid midfielder was born to Congolese parents in a refugee camp in Angola.

His family moved to France when he was young, and it was there that he developed a love for football.

Aurelien Tchouameni

Last but not least on the list is Tchouameni.

Born in France, the 24-year-old's parents are from Cameroon.

Tchouameni has also visited the Central African country before, visiting family during his stay.

Like others on the list, he chose to represent the French national team and made his international debut in 2021.

Rudiger tries to prank police officer

Sports Brief reported that Rudiger once again showed off his playful side as the Real Madrid star tried to prank a police officer.

The hilarious moment occurred before Madrid’s game against Barcelona, which would play a significant role in the title race.

Rudiger helped his side claim the win, but the talking point was his antics before the game toward an officer in the tunnel.
