Kylian Mbappe has acknowledged the mounting pressure on Paris Saint-Germain as they approach the second-leg Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, May 7.

Following a narrow one-nil defeat against the Bundesliga giants last Wednesday, PSG must overturn the scoreline at Parc des Princes if they want to be the team to reach the final this campaign.

Despite the Parisians' long-standing aspirations of claiming their first-ever Champions League trophy, their closest encounter with hoisting the big-eared title was in 2020, when they fell short against Bayern Munich in the final, per the BBC.

The upper echelons of the club are said to see this season as a prime opportunity for PSG to clinch the prestigious title, but they must first navigate past Dortmund.

PSG is under pressure, but Mbappe remains confident

Meanwhile, Mbappe remains optimistic about PSG's chances of securing a spot in the Grand Finale, even as he acknowledges the significant pressure the team is facing.

"There's a lot of pressure, which is normal because there's a place in the Champions League final at stake, which is very important,” he told France 24, as quoted by Eurosport.
"Especially, when you consider the club's record in the competition. We're aware of the pressure, but the group is extremely calm. We're confident that we'll come back from that score and reach the final."

PSG bus leaves Mbappe after 1st leg

Meanwhile, Mbappe stayed back at Signal Iduna Park after PSG's 1-0 loss to Dortmund but not because of his performance.

As reported by Sports Brief, he had to wait at the stadium before joining his teammates at the airport for the flight back to Paris.

Ex-Senegal star defends Mbappe's poor display

Sports Brief also reported that Habib Beye, an ex-Senegal international, has defended PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe, after his subdued performance in the Champions League game against Dortmund.

All eyes will be on Mbappe in the second leg at the Parc des Princes as PSG aim to overturn the first-leg deficit and advance to the next round in pursuit of their maiden UEFA Champions League title.
