Egyptian international, Mohamed Salah, equalled Wayne Rooney's Premier League record in Liverpool's win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Merseyside Reds trounced the North London side 4-2 at Anfield, with goals from Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliot.

Richarlison and Son Heung-min scored two goals for Spurs in the game, but it wasn't enough for the team to earn a point.

Salah not only scored in the game but also assisted Elliot's goal to take his assist tally to 10 this season.

The Egyptian winger is now the first player to hit double digits for both goals and assists in three successive seasons.

According to a report by the Daily Post, the former Chelsea star matched Rooney's record of being the player to have hit double figures for both stats in five different campaigns.

Rooney achieved the feat during his time with Manchester United and went on to set other records at Old Trafford.

Liverpool are still in contention to win the Premier League title despite dropping points in recent games. They face stiff competition from Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Reds' next game in the league would be against Unai Emery's Aston Villa at the Villa Park on Monday, May 13.

Salah was named on the substitutes bench for the crucial tie, and when he was to be sent into action, he and his manager got into a confrontation and had to be separated.

Jamaican forward, Michail Antonio, disclosed the details of the conversation from what he heard the other players saying around the bench when the fracas was happening.
