Next season's Champions League will be played under a new revamped format which will see four extra teams added to the roaster.

The current format had 32 teams pooled in eight different groups.

However, beginning next term, 36 teams will participate in the group stages of the European elite competition, in what is one of the biggest changes made in the tournament.

Already, a number of teams across Europe have confirmed their spots, with Manchester City and Arsenal among those who have mathematically qualified.

Others include German side Bayer Leverkusen, who were recently crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their history.

While some teams are facing an anxious wait to confirm their qualification, there are those who stand no chance at all.

According to SPORTbible, Manchester United and Chelsea are among the top teams which will not be taking part in the competition after a disastrous run of form.

Tottenham, Man United dealt UCL blow

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur suffering a huge blow in their hopes of sealing a Champions League spot with a fifth-place finish.

As it stands, that spot could have gone to the likes of Tottenham, who currently sit fifth, sixth-placed United, or even Newcastle, who are down in seventh.

However, that won't happen following Borussia Dortmund's Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night and Bayern Munich's draw with Real Madrid in the other fixture.
