Mamelodi Sundowns have cemented their position as the team to beat in the DStv Premiership.

The Brazilians extended their unbeaten run to 47 games with a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld on Monday, April 29.

Just three days after their disappointing exit in the CAF Champions League semi-final at the hands of Esperance de Tunis, Sundowns showed no signs of fatigue.

Head coach, Rulani Mokwena, made seven changes to his starting line-up with a new-look team clicking into gear immediately.

Peter Shalulile has found his scoring touch again, thanks to a clever combination with Themba Zwane, with the veteran duo repeating their magic just before half-time.

Mshishi and Tashreeq Matthews added some flair with backheels to set up Shalulile's second goal.

Second-half substitute, Thembinkosi Lorch, sealed the deal just after the hour mark, wrapping up a comfortable win for Sundowns.

As reported by iDiski Times, TS Galaxy's loss dashed hopes of CAF inter-club qualification.

With the win, Sundowns have moved 13 points clear of second-placed Stellenbosch FC and could potentially wrap up the league title as early as this Thursday (May 2) against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium, with six games still to spare.

Despite their CAF Champions League disappointment, Mokwena beamed with pride at his team's performance.

News24 reported earlier this week that he asked for more time to deliver the Champions League trophy and then doubled down on that comment, saying he loved being at a club where both players and supporters cared so deeply.

Mokwena suggests timeline to win Champions League

Sports Brief also previously reported that Mokwena suggested Sundowns needed more time to win the CAF CL.

The coach led the club to their second consecutive semi-final of the continental showpiece but fell short again.

Moments after recording a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United in the PSL, he compared the two tournaments.
