SuperSport United head coach, Gavin Hunt, has conceded that he is navigating through one of the most trying periods in his three-decade-long coaching career.

The recent 2-1 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium extended their winless streak to 10 matches in 2024.

Amidst this slump, Matsatsantsa have managed to amass a mere four points from their last seven league encounters, finding themselves in the sixth spot on the DSTv Premiership log with 36 points.

Speaking candidly after the game, Hunt attributed their struggles to the youthful composition of the squad, stressing the challenge of integrating seven Diski players into the lineup. He expressed the frustration of this learning curve, acknowledging the necessity of perseverance and hard work in such testing times.

“You can scream and shout, but that’s how the club is, where we are going, and that’s what we’re trying to do. So we’ve got to learn a little bit the hard way but it’s very frustrating and is what it is," he said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

SuperSport eliminated from Nedbank Cup

As reported by SuperSport, the club's woes were compounded two weeks prior when they suffered a devastating 4-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals, marking their most significant defeat in over a decade. Hunt, visibly dismayed by the outcome, described it as the heaviest cup defeat in his illustrious career.

During a subsequent press conference, he cited difficulties adapting to playing conditions as a contributing factor, acknowledging the team's struggles in maintaining possession and dictating the game's tempo.

Hunt opens up on talks with Hugo Broos

Sports Brief reported that Hunt discussed his conversation with Bafana boss, Hugo Broos, just before the 2023 AFCON.

Broos had attempted to establish connections with coaches in the PSL to gain insights into local players but faced initial challenges in receiving responses.

However, recent interactions suggest that the Belgian's efforts to engage with local coaches are improving gradually.
