  • Gavin Hunt has shared his discussion with South Africa head coach Hugo Broos
  • The SuperSport United manager visited the team's training camp before AFCON 2023
  • The Belgian is trying to link with PSL coaches to gain insights into local players

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has spoken about his conversation with South Africa's Hugo Broos just before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Broos had attempted to establish connections with coaches in the DSTv Premiership to gain insights into local players but faced initial challenges in receiving responses.

However, recent interactions suggest that the Bafana Bafana manager's efforts to engage with local coaches are improving gradually.

In October last year, he was spotted engaging with TS Galaxy’s coaching staff and players.

Hunt revealed that the Belgian invited him to a training session and initiated a conversation about the national team's players.

“We did meet before the Nations Cup(AFCON 2023). He asked me my opinion about players, and I gave him my opinion. We did have a long chat," Hunt disclosed, as quoted by Far Post.

The 71-year-old, who guided Cameroon to the AFCON title in 2017, was responsible for South Africa's heroics in the tournament in Abidjan, a first-third-place finish in 24 years.

Rulani Mokwena seeks amends with Broos

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rhulani Mokwena, also anticipates a better relationship with Broos.

The Belgians' comments about the Sundowns manager, which caused initial misunderstandings, were reportedly addressed and resolved amicably, with both parties agreeing to move forward positively.

The Bafana coach faced challenges in adhering to communication protocols between SAFA and the PSL to arrange meetings with DStv Premiership coaches and expressed a desire to engage directly with Mokwena.

“I’ve got a lot of time for him, big respect. And we need to congratulate him for his work with Bafana. For me, there’s no issues, especially after an apology," said Mokwena, as quoted by Sowetan Live.

Broos opens up on why Cameroon fired him

Sports Brief reported that Hugo Broos discussed what went wrong when managing Cameroon.

Barely 10 months after guiding the Indomitable Lions to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations title, the tactician was shown the door.

Broos has detailed all that transpired before he was sacked, including allegations that he was extorting money from players.
