Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, is set to contest for a Parliament seat in Ghana ahead of the 2O24 general election.
The first captain to lead Ghana to the World Cup is reportedly interested in unseating the incumbent candidate for Ayawaso West Wagon, Honourable Lydia Alhassan, who is contesting again in the ticket of the ruling party, the New Patriotic Party.
Appiah will also face competition from top Ghanaian actor and farmer, John Dumelo, who will be vying for the position on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
According to 3 News, Appiah will contest as an independent candidate, as he eyes a place in the august house.

“Stephen Appiah to contest Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as an independent Parliamentary candidate,” wrote Fiifi Tackie, the spokesperson of the Ayew family and a close friend of Appiah.
The 43-year-old former Juventus star is revered in Ghana for his exploits in football, leading Ghana to the World Cup for the first time in 2006.
He becomes the second player from the 2006 squad to show a desire for politics after Asamoah Gyan joined the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the former captain of the Ghana national team, Asamoah Gyan was named in the manifesto team of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 general election.

The ex-Black Stars captain is expected to come up with plans that will lead to the revival of sports in the West African nation, following Ghana's recent poor performance.
Appiah donates to Akosombo spillage victims
Sports Brief also reported that the former captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah visited the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage, donating to support the displaced families.
Appiah was joined by the Chief Executive Officer of Wembley Sports Construction Limited, Mr Robert Coleman, and Joy Sports journalist, Nathaniel Attoh, to support the victims of the devastating spillage.
Several families had to leave their homes due to the effect of the overflowing Akosombo Dam in February.
