Chuba Akpom wants to see former Liverpool star and current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso take the helm at Ajax Amsterdam.

Alonso, renowned for his Champions League triumph with Liverpool and recent Bundesliga success with Bayer Leverkusen, has emerged as a sought-after coaching figure.

Despite links to managerial roles at Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, Alonso confirmed his commitment to Die Werkself for at least one more season following their Bundesliga win.

Ajax's interim coach, John van't Schip, is set to transition to a technical role in July after his temporary stint with the first team.

Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is reportedly in talks to lead the Dutch giants next season. However, negotiations have allegedly hit a snag due to salary demands.

As reported by All Nigeria Soccer, Potter previously earned around twelve million pounds annually during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Akpom has, however, advocated for a youthful coach aligned with Ajax's football ethos, acknowledging Alonso as an ideal candidate.

He stressed the need for a tactician who embraces possession-based football, resonates with the club's principles, and implements a distinct playing style.

“I would like to see a young trainer with fresh ideas. Xabi Alonso would be perfect, but he doesn't seem feasible. I want a trainer who wants the ball, who understands Ajax's values , and who has a clear structure and philosophy," he said, as quoted in an interview with Ajax Life.

Akpom disappointed despite scoring brace

Sports Brief reported that Akpom assessed his performance following a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie.

The forward, a product of the Hale End Academy, netted twice, boosting the team's aspirations for the European play-off spots.

It marked the Anglo-Nigerian's second instance of scoring two goals in a league fixture since his transfer to the Netherlands, with his initial feat achieved against Heerenveen last November.
