Phil Foden continued his devastating form against Brighton and Hove Albion as he scored against the Seagulls yet again on Thursday, April 25.

The midfielder is enjoying the form of his life in the 2023/24 season as he is having his best goal-scoring campaign since he went professional.

Pep Guardiola entrusted the 23-year-old with another start against Brighton, as City sought to use their games in hand to close the gap on Arsenal.

It did not take long for the visitors to take the lead, and it came in brilliant fashion through Kevin de Bruyne’s diving header from a Kyle Walker cross.

Interestingly, the Belgian’s header was arguably not the best moment of the evening, as Foden threatened to outshine him with a lovely free kick which hit the back of Brighton’s Pascal Gross before finding the back of the net.

After going 2-0 up, the Cityzens threatened to run riot, with Foden finding the back of the net yet again with another brilliant left-footed strike, with City taking advantage of Brighton’s attempts to play it out from the back.

Foden’s impeccable record vs Brighton

In scoring a brace against the Seagulls, Foden took his goal tally to 24 for City across all competitions. It is kind to note out of these goals, none have been from the penalty spot.

Against Brighton, the Man City academy graduate also set a unique personal milestone as he has been involved in more goals against the Seagulls than any other Premier League side, with eight goals against Roberto de Zerbi’s side.

In addition, he is second in the tier of players with the most goals against Brighton since their promotion to the Premier League in 2017. Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored more goals against them, according to Squawka.

Man City too strong for Brighton

City were simply too strong for Brighton on the day, as Julian Alvarez added a fourth goal after the hour mark as Julian Alvarez got in on the action.

The 4-0 result reinforced City’s title credentials, as the race is theirs to lose with a game in hand.

Liverpool’s recent slump in form all but slipped the Reds out of the race, while Arsenal will have to be something close to flawless if they hope to beat The Cityzens to the finish line in May.

Best diving header goals in history

Sports Brief also reported on some of the best diving header goals in history after Kevin de Bruyne’s strike against Brighton.

The Belgian’s header was reminiscent of Robin van Persie’s wonder goal during the 2014 World Cup, as both players scored from a fair distance out.
