Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been in Europe recently, visiting some of the Super Eagles players recuperating from injuries.

The national team is set to face South Africa's Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic's Cheetahs in June in back-to-back 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Gusau met with PAOK central defender William Troost-Ekong, Porto fullback Zaidu Sanusi, and Nantes winger Moses Simon.

According to the Super Eagles, he talks with Assistant Captain Troost-Ekong about the importance of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Unfortunately, Simon and Zaidu have both suffered season-ending injuries, and it is almost confirmed that they will not be called up for the June internationals.

Simon is recuperating from an injury sustained during an international friendly against Mali last month. The Nantes winger collided with goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa during the first half at the Grande Stade de Marrakech in Morocco and was forced off the pitch with a fractured fibula.

Zaidu also underwent surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee in the first half of Porto's 2-0 win over Estrela da Amadora on February 17, his first game for the Portuguese side after the 2023 AFCON.

As reported by All Nigeria Soccer, Troost-Ekong, the 2023 AFCON Player of the Tournament, played through the pain barrier during the tournament in Ivory Coast and was operated on upon his return to Europe.

NFF Committee reportedly seals appointment of new coach

Sports Brief reported that the NFF technical committee decided to appoint an indigenous Super Eagles coach.

The Nigerian national team has been without a permanent coach since the departure of Jose Peseiro, who left his role at the end of February.

The Portuguese coach, who led the Super Eagles to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, left his role at the expiration of his contract.
