Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen, has once again stressed the profound influence of Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, on his career.

The 25-year-old, who has drawn comparisons to Drogba in the past, has openly expressed his admiration for the retired football icon, particularly noting similarities in their playing styles.

Known for his adept hold-up play, aerial prowess, and physical presence, Osimhen's on-field attributes often evoke memories of the Ivorian's illustrious tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The mutual respect between the two players has fostered a close relationship, with speculations arising that he might be subtly nudging the Super Eagles talisman towards a potential move to London,

The Napoli star recounted Drogba's pivotal role in shaping his football journey, crediting the former Galatasaray striker for inspiring his development as a player.

"The whole world knows that Didier Drogba inspires me. When I was a child, they introduced me to his style of football and the passionate fans, and then the whole community pushed me to follow him. I started to take an interest in him, to watch many clips, and learn from his movements and integrate them into my way of playing," he explained, as quoted by ilMattino.

Having clinched the prestigious CAF Men's Player of the Year award last year, Osimhen has set his sights on emulating Drogba's success and legacy in the footballing world.

Former Italian football star, Fabio Cannavaro, also lauded the player's exceptional talent, acknowledging his prowess on the field. As reported by Tutto Napoli, the 2006 Ballon d'Or winner admitted that he would have found it challenging to contain the Nigerian if he were still an active player today.

Osimhen opens up on possible Napoli exit

Sports Brief reported that Osimhen admitted he would break emotionally when he leaves Napoli as rumours about his future with the Italian giants continue circulating.

The 25-year-old forward has become a target for top European teams, with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal all showing interest.

He disclosed he would probably cry when leaving the former Serie A champions after becoming a cult hero among the club’s supporters.
