Sundowns Legend Warns Clubs Against 'Abusing' Players After Richards Bay FC Transfer Ban

The days of football clubs taking advantage of their players are over.

That’s according to Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Hlompho Kekana, who has weighed in on the recent transfer ban handed to Richards Bay.

SABC Sport reported that football’s organising body imposed a transfer ban on the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, preventing them from registering new players internationally and asking SAFA to impose the same ban at a national level.

The KZN side incurred FIFA's wrath after failing to honour its financial commitments to Kenyan international, Ovella Ochieng.

The winger made eight appearances for the side before he parted ways with the side, but they refused to pay him once he left.

Kekana weighs in on transfer ban

The former Bafana Bafana international recently commented on the ban imposed on the Natal Rich Boys, saying that clubs couldn’t get away with abusing players anymore.

As noted by The South African, Kekana added that it was good that teams were held accountable for their actions.

“We should learn as a country from such incidents because it’s no longer the old days where we just have to do as we please. Now there’s technology, players are vocal, they know how to speak,” he said.

The former Sundowns man added that it was difficult for teams to cut corners because players now know their rights and are vocal about it.

“They need to make sure that those who still think that the players will be quiet and you play those dodgy games, you need to get your books in order,” he continued.
