On paper, the Red Devils were clearly the favourites to secure a positive result to reach the final of the competition.

Scott McTominay broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute of the match, scoring United's opener with a fine finish to make it 1-0.

Harry Maguire doubled the advantage on the stroke of the first half before Bruno Fernandes appeared to put the game to bed with the Premier League side's third goal.

Coventry stage FA Cup comeback

However, Coventry could have none of that, with the Championship side coming from three goals down to force the tie into extra time.

Ellis Simms pulled one back for the outfit in the 71st minute before Callu O'Hara scored eight minutes later to make it 3-2.

United looked on course to hold firm to the slim win in the closing stages of the match, only for them to concede a penalty in added time.

Haji Wright stepped up to convert the spot-kick to send the match into extra-time, sparking wild reactions from fans online.
