Vitesse Arnhem have been handed an 18-point deduction and officially relegated from the Eredivisie for financial irregularities and rules breaches bordering on supply of incorrect information.

Further investigation is ongoing into the full extent and period of former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's involvement in the club's financial affairs.

Per The Guardian, the Russian oligarch secretly bankrolled the club for years and loaned them £100 million, but the club could not prove the allegations false.

Per Mirror UK, the Blues loaned 29 players to the Dutch club, starting with Matej Delac in 2010 and ending with Armando Broja, who was the last to be sent there in the 2020/21 season.

Sports Brief looks at the top five Chelsea players who spent time at the Dutch club.

Top 5 Chelsea players loaned to Vitesse

1. Nemanja Matic

Matic signed for Chelsea in 2009 and spent the 2010/11 season in the Netherlands. His impressive loan got him a permanent switch to Benfica. He returned to London in 2014 and won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge. He currently plays for Olympique Lyon in France.

2. Mason Mount

The English midfielder was one of Chelsea's best players at the Dutch club. He spent the 2017/18 season on loan in the Eredivisie and was named the club's player of the season. Another loan under Frank Lampard at Derby County eased his path into the first team.

3. Christian Atsu

The former Ghanaian international went on five loans before leaving Chelsea permanently in 2017, the first of which was at Vitesse. His performances at the club only earned him further loans. He tragically passed away last year during the earthquake in Turkey.

4. Dominic Solanke

Solanke is one of the Premier League's best strikers this season, having netted 17 league goals, three behind top scorers Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer. He came through the academy at Cobham and spent the 2015/16 season at Vitesse before he was sold to Liverpool.

5. Armando Broja

The Albanian forward was the last Blue to be loaned out to the Dutch club in the 2020/21 season. He was the club's top scorer with 10 goals in 30 games. He is out on loan at Fulham as the club looks to move him on permanently this summer.

Abramovich almost bought Arsenal

Sports Brief previously reported on how Abramovich almost bought Arsenal in 2003, but he was rebuffed and told it was not for sale, leading him to buy Chelsea.

The Russian billionaire also inquired about another London club, Tottenham Hotspur, but the deal never materialised. His time at Chelsea is the best in the club's history.
