The 53-year-old former Blackburn United player has had previous roles at technical director at Southampton and academy director at Manchester City, according to Sky Sports.
United are still on the hunt for a Sporting director, who Wilcox will report to, and Newcastle's Dan Ashworth stands a high chance of taking the job.
What Wilcox’s appointment means for Sancho
One player who will be happy with Wilcox coming to Old Trafford is Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, 23, could be offered a career lifeline by the new technical director, who has previously worked with him at Manchester City.
Wilcox is believed to be a huge fan of the winger.
Sancho’s fallout with Ten Hag
Jadon Sancho fell out with Erik ten Hag early on in the 2023/24 season and was effectively frozen out of the squad.
He eventually found a way out of the club, albeit temporarily, securing a loan move to his former club Borussia Dortmund.
At Dortmund, the Man City academy graduate seems to have regained his form and is a crucial member of Edin Terzic’s squad. According to Transfermarkt, Sancho has two goals and two assists in 14 appearances.
