Former Atletico Madrid star, Yannick Carrasco, ran riot as Al-Shabab thrashed Abha Club 5-0 in the Saudi Pro League, as Pitso Mosimane's side continue to struggle.

Having lost 8-0 to Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr earlier in April, the league minnows pulled off a 2-1 victory over Al Fateh to climb above the relegation zone.

However, relegation worries have resurfaced after Abha Club were humiliated 5-0 by Al-Shabab on Thursday night, April 18.

Carrasco was brutal in front of goal for Al-Shabab, netting a brace on the night to compound Mosimane's problems in the Saudi top flight.

Brazilian star, Carlos, found the back of the net twice as well, while Habib Diallo also got his name on the scoresheet in the 5-0 thrashing.

The result leaves Abha Club with 25 points, one above the relegation zone. Should Al Akhdoud win their game in hand, they will move above Mosimane's side.

After that, there will be six matches left in the Saudi Pro League season. For the record, 11 of Abha’s 25 points in the league have been won by Mosimane.

Amid interest from PSL side, Kaizer Chiefs, Mosimane earlier disclosed his short-term ambitions. He said, as per The South African:

"To be honest, there is interest in me now and in a totally different space that you and I could ever think of - Asia, not the Gulf.
"So, if you can get a project that’s interesting in the Gulf, just for example, and a similar project in Asia, probably I would go to Asia, just to go see."
Mosimane added: "But on that one, national teams, I don’t have a problem to be back in the continent, but club-wise no."

Pitso Mosimane fires back at journalist

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mosimane snapped back at a journalist who questioned his defensive strategy in the recent victory over Al Fateh.

Since his appointment, Abha Club have managed 11 points from a possible 24, with seven matches left to secure their place in the Saudi top flight next season.

Mosimane asserted that he lacked players in the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane when asked why his team went on the defensive.
