The 2023-24 edition of the UEFA Europa League is now in the semi-final stage, with African superstars hoping to make the final as they battle each other in the last four.

Liverpool, arguably the favourites to win the competition, have been knocked out by Atalanta in the quarter-finals. Last season finalists AS Roma edged their Italian counterparts AC Milan in the same round.

Bayer Leverkusen kept their unbeaten run in all competitions intact after defeating West Ham 3-1 on aggregate to book a place in the semi-final, while Olympique Marseille needed a penalty shootout to knock out Benfica.

Bayer Leverkusen continues their blistering form in all competitions this season and will face another test in the Europa League semi-final, where they will battle Roma for a place in the finals.

Leverkusen have five African stars in their squad, while Roma have two. Boniface and Ndicka (Africa Cup of Nations 2023 winner) are the main stars of this tie.

2. Azzedine Ounahi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Amine Harit, Faris Moumbagna, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Pape Gueye, Ismaïla Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye, Chancel Mbemba VS El Bilal Toure, Ademola Lookman

Olympique Marseille have the most African players in their squad amongst the four clubs left in the tournament, and they will face Atalanta in the next round.

The competition's top scorer, Aubameyang, will lead the French side against Lookman's Atalanta.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Victor Boniface performed Mohammed Kudus' celebration after scoring against West Ham in the Europa League in Germany.

The Nigerian forward scored for the Bundesliga champions from a strong header after meeting a Jonas Hoffman cross in the 91st minute of the UEL first-leg game.
