The UEFA Champions League has provided loads of excitement this season, and now it’s the turn of the CAF Champions League.

The semi-finals get underway this weekend, with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns taking on Esperance de Tunis, and Al Ahly facing TP Mazembe.

Teko Modise has urged his former side to give it all to win the CAF Champions League.

With Sundowns chasing a historic quadruple, former midfielder, Teko Modise, has urged the club to prioritise the continental title.

The Brazilians won the AFL, are on course to win the DStv Premiership, and are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup and the Champions League.

As reported by Sowetan LIVE, Modise said Masandawana’s entire focus should be on the CAF CL rather than the Nedbank Cup due to their busy schedule.

"I would like to see them winning the Champions League more. If I had to choose a trophy now, I would choose that," Modise said.

He added that the tricky part of cup football was that there are no second chances.

Apart from the bragging rights of being called champions of Africa, Modise stated that a continental win would also benefit the players.

"It's one of the biggest stages on the continent. Certain players will not have that opportunity in the national team, but playing in the Champions League will give you that experience and exposure, and when you play in the national team, you are ready."

When do Sundowns play Esperance?

The reigning DStv Premiership champions will play the Tunisian side in the first leg on Saturday, April 20.

Esperance will then travel to South Africa for the second leg on Friday, April 26.

Have Sundowns won the Champions League before?

The Brazilians have only lifted the trophy once before, in 2016, and have only made it to the final on one other occasion.

The victory in 2016 came as a result of a 3-1 win on aggregate over Zamalek from Egypt.

Anthony Laffor and Tebogo Langerman grabbed Sundowns’ goals, while an own goal from Eslam Gamal compounded matters for the Egyptian side, African Football reported.

Modise breaks down Sundowns’ success

Sports Brief reported how former star, Modise, explained why Sundowns were so successful.

The Brazilians have dominated the Premier Soccer League recently, winning six titles in a row.

The General explained that the side always had quality players to implement the style of play.
