With major games coming up that will determine places at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, filling the coaching position at the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be an important decision.

Conversations and speculations have continued to swirl as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) delays the announcement of the next coach for the national team.

Some of the managers who applied for the role are still hoping to stake their claim as the best to lead the Nigerian national side, with the latest being Emmanuel Amunike.

The 53-year-old former Barcelona player has outlined why he considers himself the ideal candidate to coach the Super Eagles.

Amunike speaks on Super Eagles job

In an interview with media outlet, Punch Sports, the former Sporting CP winger declared why he considers himself the perfect fit for Nigeria.

"I was with the team when we narrowly missed out on the [2022] World Cup in Qatar. I know the players very well and can help them play to their strengths with more freedom."

Further commenting on the quality of players available to the Super Eagles, Amunike stated:

"We have great talents in the Super Eagles; it is for them to have the self-belief and confidence that they can bring back the glory days."

The Super Eagles legend's words mirror those of many coaches who have applied for the Nigerian national coaching role.

The well-traveled coach has previously achieved success with the U17 ranks of the West African nation and he also coached Tanzania's national side during the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2019.

NFF chief speaks on Super Eagles coaching announcement

Sports Brief also previously reported on a stakeholder of Nigerian football explaining the present delay in announcing the next coach of the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria national team have been without a permanent coach since the end of February, when Jose Peseiro exited the role at the end of his contract.
