Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has welcomed new Cameroon coach Marc Brys, and he is also calling for unity between the Sports Ministry and FECAFOOT.

Brys was confirmed coach of the Indomitable Lions last week but the Cameroonian Football Federation led by Samuel Eto'o are yet to accept his appointment.

This has left Cameroonian football in a state of disarray with the national team set to return to action in June for the World Cup qualifiers.

Despite the misunderstanding between the two parties, Onana took to social media to wish the Belgian trainer luck while calling for unity.

“Good luck to the coach and his staff for this new phase. Unity and engagement,” Onana wrote on his Snapchat, as quoted by Kick 442.

It is unclear if Eto'o and the members of the federation will be willing to work with the coach, having submitted a list that was ignored by the Sports Ministry.

FECAFOOT wanted former Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard, World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro, or Jose Peseiro as a replacement for Rigobert Song, as reported by 13 Football.

The five-time African champions will face Cape Verde and Angola in June's World Cup qualifiers.

FECAFOOT rejects appointment of Marc Brys

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the FECAFOOT rejected the appointment of Marc Brys as the new coach of the Cameroonian national team.

The Cameroonian Football Federation led by the country's legend, Samuel Eto'o, blames the ministry for unilaterally picking a coach without their approval.

Meanwhile, the former Oud Hervelee Leuven coach replaces Rigobert Song, who left in February following the expiration of his contract.

Eto'o absent as Cameroon unveils coach

Sports Brief also reported that Samuel Eto'o was not present as the Cameroonian Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, unveiled the new coach of the national team.

The Belgium trainer arrived in Yaoundé last week and signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the five-time African champions.

At a brief meeting held last by Cameroon's Sports Minister, Brys and his technical team were tasked to qualify the country for the 2026 World Cup and also ensure a successful Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
