  • Victor Boniface downplayed talks about trolling Mohammed Kudus
  • The Bayer Leverkusen star mimicked Kudus’ goal celebration in Europe
  • Leverkusen defeated West Ham 2-0 in the Europa League quarterfinal

Victor Boniface has finally opened up on his goal celebration during Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory against West Ham in the Europa League quarterfinal first leg at the Bay Arena.

The 23-year-old Nigerian mimicked Kudus’ goal celebration after doubling Leverkusen’s lead in added time against the Hammers, sparking claims he did it to troll the Ghanaian winger.

Speaking with Oma Sports, Boniface after clinching the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen, relived the incident and disclosed he did the celebration at the spur of the moment and not to spite Kudus.

Bayer Leverkusen are on course to win the treble this season after sealing the Bundesliga title, the club’s first league title in 120 years of existence, and also ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year run of winning the league.

Boniface and his teammates have also booked themselves a place in the final of the DFB Pokal where they will take on lowly-rated Kaiserslautern and have one leg into the Europa League semi-finals.

Boniface hails Bayer Leverkusen teammates

Meanwhile, Boniface has acknowledged it was a collective effort from his teammates that led Bayer Leverkusen to emerge as German champions for the first time in the 120-year history of the club, Punch reports.

“We lead ourselves,” the Nigerian striker wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after Xabi Alonso’s men were crowned as Bundesliga champions with five league games remaining.

Boniface has scored 11 goals and created eight assists in just 18 Bundesliga appearances this season, despite missing four months due to injury.

Oliseh congratulates Bundesliga champion Boniface

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Super Eagles legend, Sunday Oliseh congratulated Boniface after Bayer Leverkusen claimed their first-ever Bundesliga title on Sunday evening (April 14).

The 23-year-old Nigerian striker was one of the top players on Alonso's team this season, scoring once in Leverkusen's 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen at the Bay Arena.

Boniface missed some of Leverkusen's games earlier in the season due to injury, but he remained an important player in the team's quest for the German championship.
