- He was selected to join the national team by debuting for Bafana in 2008
Former Kaizer Chiefs manager, Muhsin Ertugral, has provided insights into the journey of South Africa's renowned goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune.
Ertugral highlighted Khune's rise to prominence during his tenure with the club, stressing the player's exceptional abilities and dedication to his craft.
He reminisced about the veteran's relentless pursuit of excellence, recounting how the goalkeeper often spent extra time honing his skills after regular training sessions.
"Itu was after every training session, on the field, and practising 100 balls. So, it was enthusiasm, it was passion. He talked about achieving in those years, and he wanted to achieve. I would have loved he played maybe in a league like France, his dynamic football game is much more fluent in technicalities. He would be a great goalkeeper there," said Ertugral, as quoted by iDiski Times.

Despite attracting interest from European clubs, Khune's dream of playing abroad was never realized, with factors such as his genetic makeup and the timing of the 2010 World Cup hindering potential transfers.
Ertugral acknowledged the shot-stopper's groundbreaking distribution skills but pointed out the challenge posed by his height in the European context.
He disclosed that clubs like Sivasspor had expressed interest in him, offering lucrative deals, but the looming World Cup thwarted these opportunities.
Amakhosi are set to experience a major shake-up as seven players, including Khune, are expected to leave as soon as their contracts with the club lapse this summer.
According to The South African, four Premier Soccer League (PSL) players are already on the club's radar as it begins to make moves to bolster its squad ahead of next season.
