  • Alejandro Garnacho has risked the wrath of Erik ten Hag with his social media activities
  • Garnacho was hooked off at half-time in Manchester United's game against Bournemouth
  • Jadon Sancho's similar social media approach last year cost him a place in the team

Erik ten Hag's disappointing season at Manchester United went from bad to worse after they failed to beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on April 14.

The hosts were the better side but failed to maximise their chances, with Bruno Fernandes equalising twice to rescue a point for the Red Devils.

The draw saw Manchester United extend their winless streak in the Premier League to four games. They also dropped from sixth to seventh place on 50 points, putting them 10 points off Tottenham Hotspur in fifth. Fifth place in the Premier League could be enough for Champions League football next season.

What did Alejandro Garnacho do?

After the game, Alejandro Garnacho's social media activities raised eyebrows. The Argentine star was hooked off at half-time, with ten Hag confirming it wasn't an injury-related issue.

The 19-year-old liked a couple of tweets from Manchester United's fan Mark Goldbridge, who criticised ten Hag's handling of the winger.

One of the tweets read,

"Garnacho has been one of our best players this season. Poor first half but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in and week out and are still out there."

The social media path is risky, given that it led to Jadon Sancho's banishment from the squad. The England international shared a scathing statement in response to ten Hag's criticism and refused to apologise. He was eventually loaned back to Borussia Dortmund.

Ten Hag leaves press conference

Sports Brief has also reported that ten Hag walked out of a press conference after the Bournemouth draw.

Ten Hag was quizzed about the possibility of Manchester United recording their worst-ever finish in the Premier League this season.

The record currently stands at seventh place, which they got in the 2013/2014 season after Sir Alex Ferguson had left.
