Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Rulani Mokwena, has shed light on the team's recent difficulty in scoring goals compared to other clubs like Orlando Pirates.
Despite expressing his desire for Sundowns to replicate high-scoring feats, Mokwena highlighted the challenge of facing defensive-minded opponents who employ low-block strategies, resulting in narrow victories for his team.
In their most recent DSTV Premiership clash against Cape Town Spurs, Masandawana managed to secure a 1-0 win courtesy of a penalty converted by Lucas Ribeiro, extending their lead at the top of the log to 13 points.
Although they dominated possession throughout the game, the Brazilians struggled to penetrate the stubborn Urban Warriors' defence.

Mokwena expressed his frustration, wishing for opponents to adopt a more open style of play against Sundowns, similar to how Golden Arrows played against Orlando Pirates in a high-scoring encounter. However, he acknowledged the reality of facing teams that employ defensive tactics, making it challenging for Sundowns to score multiple goals in a match.
“It’s very tough, I was saying to the players at half-time, I wish someone can play like Golden Arrows playing against Pirates, so open. [But] no one plays against us like that, giving us a chance to score seven or eight goals. Nobody does it,” Mokwena told iDiski Times.
He stressed the need for his team to improve their counter-attacking prowess, as they currently struggle in that aspect. Despite the team's scoring drought, Mokwena praised the players for their resilience and focus during challenging moments.
