- Monterrey eliminated Inter Miami from the CONCACAF Champions Cup
- The Mexican club won 5-2 on aggregate after a 2-1 first-leg win in Miami
- The club trolled Lionel Messi by using Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic ‘Siuuu’
Monterrey eliminated Inter Miami from the CONCACAF Champions League after a 3-1 victory to take the aggregate score to 5-2, then appeared to take a jab at Lionel Messi.
The Liga MX club won the first leg 2-1 at the Chase Stadium in Miami. Messi missed that game due to a muscle injury that kept him out of action with the Herons for a month.
His return to action could not save the MLS franchise from elimination as the Mexican giants raced to a 3-0 lead just after the hour mark in the second half.
The Argentina captain assisted Diego Gomez for a consolation goal, but it was too late to stage a comeback, and they were dumped out of the Continental Cup competition in the last eight.

Monterrey troll Messi with ‘Siuuu’
The 2021 Champions Cup winners progressed to the semi-final but were not gracious in victory and made a social media post that was aimed at trolling Messi.
As spotted by TeamCRonaldo on X, Rayados tweeted ‘Siuuu’, a phrase made popular by Portuguese superstar and Leo's long-term rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The post was up for a few minutes before it was brought down, but not before it was captured by football fans on social media and recirculated widely.
Per Sportskeeda, the 2022 World Cup winner was also greeted with Ronaldo chants by the home fans as he headed for the tunnel at half-time, but he ignored them.
Next for the Herons is a trip to Kansas to face Sporting KC in the league as they continue their quest for a first MLS playoff in their history.

Sports Brief also reported on Monterrey’s assistant head coach, Nico Sanchez, insulting Messi in the first leg of the encounter in Miami despite the attacker not playing.
Sanchez referred to his compatriot as a possessed dwarf with the face of the devil when Miami staff confronted the officials. He has since apologised for his comments.
