  • Bayern Munich drew with Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday
  • Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel blasted the referee for not giving his side a penalty in the second half
  • The incident occurred in the 66th minute when Arsenal defender Gabriel picked up a ball inside the box

The first-leg showdown between Bayern Munich and Arsenal lived up to the hype.

Both sides cancelled each other out in an entertaining 2-2 draw, with that Champions League match providing plenty of drama and controversy.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was livid during a press conference after the match, blasting Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg for not awarding his side a penalty in the middle of the second half, with Bayern up 2-1 at that stage.

Tuchel outraged after missed penalty call

The aforementioned incident happened in the 66th minute when Arsenal defender Gabriel picked up the football inside his own box after goalkeeper David Raya issued a short pass to him from a goal kick, per ESPN.

The ball was already live as the referee had already blown his whistle, but much to Tuchel's disgust, no spot-kick was given to his team.

He blasted the match official in the presser, saying:

"For me, for all of us, he made a huge mistake not giving the handball penalty."

Tuchel shared that what made him even angrier was Nyberg's explanation for not giving a spot kick.

According to the Bayern coach, the referee told his players that it was a 'kid's mistake' and he would not give a penalty like this in a Champions League quarterfinal, per Eurosport.

The German coach said that it was a "horrible, horrible explanation" as he was judging handballs.

Saka also denied penalty in Bayern match

This wasn't the only controversial incident to take place in the Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich match.

Sports Brief recently reported on the referee denying the Gunners a penalty late in the second half against the German giants.

Bukayo Saka fell in the box after a collision with Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, but no foul was called.
