Ronaldo's dismissal marked his 12th expulsion throughout his career, and it was his first one since he moved to Saudi Arabia.

The 39-year-old received four red cards during his time at Manchester United, six during his tenure at Real Madrid, and one while playing for Juventus.

His red card in Al Nassr’s Saudi Super Clash against Al Hilal also signifies his first red card in the Middle East thus far.

Sports Brief takes a look at the other occasions on which he was given his marching orders.

Ronaldo's red card history

First-ever red card

On May 15, 2004, Ronaldo received his first expulsion during the final Premier League game against Aston Villa while playing for Manchester United, per Essentially Sports.

He earned his first yellow card in the 38th minute for simulation and the second in the 85th minute for shooting despite the offside signal. Manchester United won 2-0, securing a third-place finish that season.

Two reds during Manchester derby

Derbies are known for their intense rivalry, and Ronaldo, a player known for his strong character, was sent off twice against Manchester City during his tenure at Manchester United, both times at City's home ground.

The first incident occurred during the 2005/06 season, and the second in 2008/09, his final Premier League campaign before joining Real Madrid.

On January 14, 2006, Ronaldo was shown a red card in the 66th minute for a hard tackle on Andy Cole, resulting in a yellow card, followed by another for protesting. United lost that match 3-1, via The Guardian.

In the November 30, 2008, Manchester derby, Ronaldo received his second red card, accumulating two yellow cards.

The first, in the 58th minute, was for a foul on Sean Wright-Phillips during a counterattack, and the second for a handball at a corner kick. Despite his expulsion, United triumphed 1-0 in the derby.

Ronaldo sent to the showers at Portsmouth

A clash during a match against Portsmouth resulted in Ronaldo being sent off to the dressing room in the 85th minute. Ronaldo engaged in a confrontation with Richard Hughes, sparking a brawl.

This incident occurred on August 15, 2007, during the second week of the Premier League season. The match concluded with a 1-1 draw.

Debut La Liga red card

On December 5, 2009, Ronaldo received his first red card while playing for Real Madrid in a match against Almeria at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, which Los Blancos won 4-2.

The incident occurred within three minutes: in the 84th minute, he took off his shirt to celebrate a goal, and in the 88th minute, he kicked Juanma Ortiz after being touched on the neck by Ortiz's arm.

Madrid derby and El Clasico dismissals

Another derby, another dismissal.

At Real Madrid, Ronaldo was sent off in games against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. In the Copa del Rey final on May 17, 2013, Rojiblancos gained an advantage from Ronaldo's dismissal.

Gabi fouled Ronaldo, who retaliated by raising his leg excessively, hitting his opponent's face in the extra time. His sent-off eventually aided Diego Simeone's side to win the title.

Furthermore, in a tense match at Camp Nou against perennial rivals Barcelona, CR7 was dismissed in the first leg of the Supercopa de España on August 13, 2017.

He received two yellow cards, the first for removing his shirt to celebrate a goal and the second for simulation.

It's worth noting that Ronaldo expressed dissatisfaction with referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea's decision to eject him, leading to a significant five-match suspension for pushing the official.

Ronaldo 'punches' Patrick Mtiliga

This was Ronaldo's second expulsion of the 2009/10 season, following the incident against Almeria, and his first straight red card in Spain.

In a match against Malaga at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on January 24, 2010, Ronaldo was sent off for releasing his arm and striking Mtiliga in the face during a tussle for the ball. Real Madrid won the match 2-0.

Ronaldo squares off with Carlos Gurpegi

In the 75th minute of a match against Athletic Club at San Mamés, Ronaldo was shown a red card for striking Carlos Gurpegi.

This resulted in a three-match ban for the Portuguese.

Ronaldo's last red in La Liga

This marked his final dismissal in La Liga, occurring during a Real Madrid match against Cordoba at the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel on January 24, 2015.

Ronaldo received the red card in the 82nd minute for kicking Edimar without the ball. Jose Angel Crespo, attempting to intervene, was also pushed by the Portuguese.

Sent off in the Champions League

In his debut Champions League match with Juventus on September 19, 2018, Ronaldo received a red card in the 29th minute for pulling on Jeison Murillo's hair.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was visibly upset by the straight red card, shedding tears as he exited the pitch.

Al-Nassr crash out of Saudi Super Cup

Sports Brief recently reported on Ronaldo missing out on another title in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Nassr crashed out of the Saudi Super Cup following Monday's 2-1 loss.

Sadio Mane scored a consolation goal for Al-Nassr in second-half stoppage time after Ronaldo was sent off in the 86th minute.
