The presidential candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria, Peter Obi, was spotted during the burial ceremony of Chief Angus Osondu Nwoye, who passed away during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Having traveled to Bouake for the semi-final clash between Nigeria and South Africa, the Abidjan-based billionaire was reported to have collapsed during the tension-soaked encounter.

William Troost-Ekong had put the Super Eagles ahead from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, but Teboho Mokoena drew his side level in a similar fashion in the 90th minute forcing the game into extra-time.

Still, both teams were inseparable after another 30 minutes of intense battle and the fixture was decided via a penalty shootout, with Nigeria winning 4-2, Aljazeera reports.

Nigerians were left in shock following news that Osondu Nwoye passed away inside the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.

About two months after the tragic incident, his remains has been buried in his home town of Amanuke in Anambra state.

Among dignitaries at the ceremony were Peter Obi and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Valentine Ozigbo. Obi hailed the late football enthusiast for his positive impact in the Amanuke Community.

He wrote:

"Among my other engagements today, I was in Amanuke, Anambra State, where I joined other mourners to pay my last respects to a very patriotic Nigerian, Late Chief Osondu Nwoye, who died during the last AFCON games in Cote d'Ivoire, earlier this year.
"Testimonies abound of his caring lifestyle from people whose lives he has positively touched. I particularly felt the pain of the young students from Community Secondary School, Amanuke, who are under his scholarship scheme."

Osimhen mourns Chied Nwoye Osondu

Sports Brief Nigerian international Victor Osimhen released a statement over the passage of Nwoye Osondu Angus, who collapsed during a semi-final game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The remains of the late football enthusiast was buried in his home town of Amanuke, Anambra State, on Saturday, April 6.

Until his death, the Igbo tribe chieftain was the President Director General of Groupe Auto Promotion, in Abidjan, the Ivorian capital.
