  • Algeria play South Africa in a friendly clash on Tuesday evening
  • Algeria star, Houssem Aouar, has commended Bafana Bafana's style
  • Hugo Broos' side finished third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations

AS Roma and Algeria midfielder, Houssem Aouar, has applauded South Africa for playing attractive football ahead of their friendly match tonight.

Algeria are just beginning a new era under Vladimir Petkovic, who replaced Djamel Belmadi after another dreadful Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Bafana Bafana are coming off a superb AFCON campaign, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Andorra on Friday.

Hugo Broos's side made an unexpected run to the semi-final of the tournament in Ivory Coast. It was their first semi-final since 2000. They played some of the best football at the tournament, which helped them eliminate favourites Morocco.

Despite losing to Nigeria, it was an incredible tournament for the 1996 champions. Aouar expects a tough match from South Africa.

"We will face a stubborn team that plays beautiful football, and the most prominent evidence of that is what is presented in the last African Cup of Nations," he said via KickOff.
"The match will be good, given that the two teams are considered the best [in Africa[."

The Desert Foxes defeated Bolivia 3-2 on Saturday, March 23, and thousands of fans will be cheering them on.

Algeria fire Belmadi

Sports Brief earlier reported on Algeria parting ways with Belmadi after their second straight group-stage exit from the AFCON.

Belmadi led his country to the 2019 AFCON glory, but things went downhill afterwards. They crashed out from the AFCON in 2021 and 2023 in the group stages without winning a game.

Belmadi was replaced by Petkovic, who helped Switzerland eliminate France from the 2020 European Championship, per AP.

South Africa claim AFCON bronze

Sports Brief also reported on South Africa beating DR Congo to finish third at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams stole the show with superb penalty saves to help his country finish the tournament on a high.

The 32-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper saved penalties from Chancel Mbemba and Meschack Elia.
