Sharp-eyed football fans noticed Reece James' response to the appearance of ex-teammate Mason Mount during Thursday's Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge.

Mount, who transferred from Chelsea to Manchester United in the summer for £55 million plus £5 million in performance-related bonuses, faced a chilly reception upon his entrance.

Despite dedicating over 18 years to his childhood club, the midfielder encountered jeers from numerous Blues supporters as he substituted Alejandro Garnacho in the 86th minute.

But one of his former academy teammates, 25-year-old James, sidelined with a hamstring injury since December, expressed his sentiments.

Despite Mount facing boos from the stadium, James was spotted applauding the midfielder—a gesture of respect that garnered praise from many.

James penned an emotional message to Mount after he announced his decision to leave boyhood club Chelsea.

James' farewell message to Mount

Taking to Instagram, he wrote via TalkSPORT:

"Ma brother man. Where do I start. I’ve known you since 6 years old, we grew together and took similar paths in breaking into the first team. Something that seemed virtually impossible.
"I’m proud to say I done it alongside yovb m u. I’ve seen you as a little boy and watched you grow into the man and player you are today, you’ve done yourself and your family proud."

While Mount's decision to depart Stamford Bridge for United surprised many, reports corroborated by GOAL suggest that his motives were not solely based on footballing reasons.

Mount clashes with Chelsea star Enzo

Mount began the match on the bench during his first return to Stamford Bridge, entering the game as a substitute for Alejandro Garnacho in the second half.

Garnacho scored twice, along with Bruno Fernandes' header, to give United a 3-2 lead. Mount's role primarily involved time-wasting tactics, which irritated his former teammate Enzo Fernandez.

This led to a confrontation between the two players, requiring intervention from the referee to defuse the situation, as reported by Sports Brief.
