South Africa Police have given more details concerning the passing of Luke Fleurs after the Kaizer Chiefs defender tragically lost his life in a car hijacking incident on Wednesday, April 3.
The 24-year-old was shot dead after he was attacked by two assailants in a filling station and his car driven away by the unknown gunmen, who ordered him to get out of the vehicle.
According to The South African, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo disclosed that Fleurs was shot in his upper body after his car was hijacked by the gunmen.
“While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant, he [Fleurs] was confronted by two armed males who came driving a white BMW 1 Series.

“The suspects dragged Fleurs out of the car at gunpoint and shot him once in the upper body. One of the suspects fled the scene in the player’s car, followed by the accomplice in the BMW.”
Fleurs joined Kaizer Chiefs from SuperSport United in October and is yet to make his debut for Amakhosi until his sad demise.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs has described the death of Fleurs as tragic after the 24-year-old defender was shot dead during a car hijacking incident after being attacked by two gunmen, BBC reports.
The Amakhosi described the 24-year-old as a classy defender with great technical abilities, while South Africa’s Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa said he was saddened that yet another life has been cut short due to violent crime.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kaizer Chiefs' Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, have commented on the death of Fleurs, who died after being shot during a hijacking in Johannesburg.
The Bucs joined many football organisations that have shared their messages of condolence to the club and the player's family.
Pirates released an official statement on their X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to sympathise with Amakhosi and the 24-year-old defender’s family.
