Foden celebrates achievement on social media

Foden posted a message on X, writing:

Foden made history with his three goals against Aston Villa, becoming the first player to record multiple hat-tricks in the 2023-24 Premier League season.

He posted his first hat-trick this campaign in the game against Brentford last February. He picked the perfect time to score a treble again after City produced a lacklustre showing in their previous game against Arsenal.

How Foden recorded his hat-trick

Foden gave Manchester City a 2-1 lead just before the half-time break, netting a low free kick from 20 yards out.

He scored his second goal of the night in the 62nd minute, firing a low shot past Aston Villa's deputy goalkeeper Robin Olsen, per the BBC.

He completed his hat-trick in style in the 69th minute, unleashing a strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

It was an important win for Foden and City, who kept pace with Arsenal in the Premier League title race. They trail the Gunners by just one point with eight matches remaining in their league schedule.

Pep Guardiola's men share the same number of points as Liverpool, who have a game in hand. The Reds will face Sheffield United later tonight.

Foden delights with free-kick artistry

Sports Brief recently reported on Foden's free-kick goal against Aston Villa.

He found the back of the net with that set piece at the stroke of half-time.

It was Foden's first goal from a direct free kick in Manchester City colours.
