Kaizer Chiefs defender, Luke Fleurs, has tragically passed away after being gunned down in a reported hijacking incident in Johannesburg.

The 24-year-old, who joined Chiefs in October from SuperSport United, was yet to make his debut for the PSL giants at the time of his passing.

According to iDiski Times, a family member of the 24-year-old confirmed Fleurs was shot and killed during a hijacking incident.

Kaizer Chiefs is expected to release a statement in due course, but news of the defender's untimely demise is already spreading.

Tributes pour in for Luke Fleurs

SuperSport Football posted on X (formerly Twitter) to also confirm the tragic news:

"Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs, 24, has reportedly been shot and killed in a hijacking in Johannesburg. Fleurs previously played for SuperSport United. He made 66 appearances in the [Dstv Premiership]."

Lorenz Kohler wrote:

"I cannot believe this after seeing him a few days ago, incredibly sad moment, and my heartfelt condolences to his loved one."

FARZarPost tweeted:

"Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs. On behalf of everyone at FARPost, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Luke's family, friends & the entire SA football community."

Fleurs made 66 appearances in the South African Premier League, and his death would have come as a shock to many of his compatriots and supporters.

Kaizer Chiefs end quest for Nwabali

In other news related to the club, Sports Brief reported that Kaizer Chiefs have ended interest in Stanley Nwabali, reportedly due to the huge asking price of Chippa United.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper attracted the interest of several clubs around the globe after starring for Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Kaizer Chiefs were said to be among the clubs interested in Nwabali but were claimed to have backed out after Chippa United slammed a whopping R30 million as his price tag.
