Chippa United have slammed a heft price tag on Stanley Nwabali, forcing rivals Kaizer Chiefs to back out from their ambition of signing the Super Eagles goalkeeper in the summer.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper attracted the interest of several clubs around the globe including teams in Saudi Arabia after starring for Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
According to BSN Sports, Kaizer Chiefs who were one of the leading clubs interested in Nwabali have backed out of any deal to sign the Nigerian after Chippa United slammed a whopping R30 million as his price tag.
Amakhosi announced on Tuesday afternoon that they might not be able to get the Nigerian International due to his hefty price tag and will look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper.

Nwabali kept four clean sheets at the 2023 AFCON and narrowly lost the Golden Gloves award to South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams at the tournament.

Meanwhile, Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia and Queens Park Rangers in England have identified Super Eagles goalkeeper Nwabali as a top transfer target this summer, Daily Post reports.
Nwabali is widely expected to leave Chippa United this summer despite having a contract with the South African club until 2026 due to the numerous interests he is receiving from foreign clubs.
The Chippa United was in action for the Super Eagles in the international friendly games against Ghana’s Black Stars and the Eagles of Mali.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nwabali has broken his silence about rumours that have linked him with a move away from Chippa United following his exploits at the 2023 AFCON.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper upon his return to South Africa, dismissed reports that he had received offers to leave Chippa United at the end of the season.
Nwbali claims he has only heard of the contract offers online but nothing substantial has been brought to his attention by his agent.
