  • Herve Renard is on the radar of five countries for the coaching role
  • Renard will leave his job as France's women's national team coach
  • Nigeria and South Korea are on the list of potential suitors for Renard

Herve Renard has become a hot cake since he announced his decision to leave his role as the French women's national team coach at the end of the Olympic Games in Paris.

The former Saudi Arabia gaffer has since been attracting interest from several countries with the return to Africa looking highly likely.

Having seen success with Zambia and Ivory Coast in the past, the Frenchman had a tough time with Morocco despite leading them to the 2018 World Cup.

Renard is eyeing a return to the global showpiece after his time with Morocco and Saudi Arabia at the 2018 and 2022 editions.

Sports Brief looks at the five countries interested in Herve Renard.

Cameroon

The five-time Africa champions are still in a hunt for a new coach following the departure of Rigobert Song after the Africa Cup of Nations. The Indomitable Lions have already been linked with a potential move for FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto'o's former coach Jose Mourinho.

However, the Portuguese seem to be considering a move to a club rather than international football, leaving Cameroon with Renard as the best option.

Nigeria

The AFCON finalists are yet to replace Jose Peseiro, with Finidi George acting as an interim coach. Reports in Nigeria indicate the NFF are preparing to make a move for the Frenchman despite his high salary demands.

Morocco

Herve Renard is believed to have unfinished business with the Moroccan Football Federation despite spending three years with the North Africans, leading them to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Under Renard, the Atlas Lions were eliminated at the round of 16 of AFCON 2019 and failed to go beyond the group stage at the World Cup, per 13 Football.

Following a round of 16 exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the next AFCON host will take their chances on the two-time winner.

Poland

Poland were forced to replace Fernando Santos with Michal Probierz in September 2023 following struggles to qualify for Euro 2024. Probierz organised the Robert Lewandowski-led team to qualify for the European championship.

However, an opportunity to work with Herve Renard has been making rounds in Warsaw, and a decision could be made at the end of the Euros.

South Korea

After a disappointing Asian Cup, the South Korean Football Federation handed the job to caretaker coach Hwang Sun-hong. The Korean federation are still in a hunt for a permanent coach and having worked in Asia with Saudi Arabia, Renard is seen as the perfect candidate.

Herve Renard linked with Nigeria job

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the NFF are reportedly interested in Herve Renard as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finalists are yet to announce a new national coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro in February.

Former Super Eagles forward, Finidi George, has been named interim coach and took charge for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.
