Newly capped Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder, Elias Mokwana, remains resolute in his commitment to stay grounded despite the escalating attention.

Amidst the buzz surrounding his standout performances in the recent FIFA Series, Mokwana, 24, hailing from Platinum City Rovers in the National First Division just two years ago, showed quality against Andorra and Algeria.

His notable contribution included a crucial goal against the European side and an assist in the thrilling encounter with the Carthage Eagles.

Reflecting on his debut for Bafana, Mokwana expressed satisfaction with his performance but stressed his hunger for further achievements. Acknowledging the disparity between domestic and international football, he credited senior players for aiding his adjustment to the elevated level of play.

“It was exciting, a really great camp where I played with a lot of experienced players and I learnt a lot from them. I am grateful to have had an opportunity and to contribute one goal and one assist for my country,” he said, as quoted by Times Live.

Legendary South African midfielder Doctor Khumalo lauded Mokwana's emergence as a potential game-changer for the national team, commending coach Hugo Broos for his astute eye in spotting talent. Khumalo admired the player's direct approach and ability to unsettle defenders.

"Hugo should be proud of himself because he found a diamond now in Mokwana. There is nothing I like more than a wing player who can challenge defenders directly," he said on SABC3, as reported by iDiski Times.

Looking ahead to the team's upcoming fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe, the rising star aspires to secure a spot in the squad.
