  • The coaching situation of the Super Eagles continues to generate significant conversation
  • Several managers have shown their interest in taking over as the next coach of the team
  • An ex-Real Madrid star has urged the NFF to appoint Finidi as Super Eagles' next coach

The conversations surrounding the coaching situation of the Super Eagles continue to reverberate across Nigeria's footballing community.

Following the conclusion of the international break and the mixed results achieved by interim coach Finidi George, a flurry of fans and stakeholders remain divided regarding the ideal man to lead the Nigerian team following the departure of Jose Peseiro.

A few who are clamouring for the appointment of a local coach are undecided regarding which local coach should be saddled with the responsibility of leading the team, while others who continue to push for a foreign coach are without a definite candidate to lead the Nigerian team.

However, amidst the ongoing chatter, a former Real Madrid midfielder has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to maintain continuity by retaining coach Finidi.

Former Real Madrid star wants Finidi's continuity

In an interview with media outlet Flashscore Espana, former Real Madrid star, Mutiu Adepoju, has advocated for the continuation of coach Finidi.

Supporting his assertion in the interview, Adepoju stated:

“Finidi has only coached two games, winning one and losing one, which is quite good. He still has a lot of room to improve.
I believe the Super Eagles will do well under his leadership if he gets the job. We shouldn't judge him just based on the Mali game. Even Jose Peseiro didn't win every game as Super Eagles coach. Finidi deserves our trust so he can build the confidence needed to improve the team."

Adepoju's words seem to be an attempt to weigh in on the growing discussions about Finidi's ability to lead the Nigerian team.

However, it must be noted that the responsibility rests with the NFF technical committee to appoint whoever they consider suitable to take over as the next coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles.

Why Nigeria lost against Mali

In a separate report, Sports Brief also delved into the reasons behind Nigeria's loss to Mali in their friendly match.

Coach Finidi's team delivered a lacklustre performance, ultimately paying a heavy price for their subpar display.
