  • Erling Haaland has missed out on the Premier League's top strikers of 2024
  • The Manchester City forward leads the top scorer's rankings for the season
  • Expected goals, duels won, and chances created were among metrics used

The Premier League will return this weekend following the conclusion of the first international break of the year.

The focus will be on teams as they look forward to accomplishing different objectives. For instance, Arsenal's visit to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday is expected to be a big title decider.

But that aside, a couple of players will also be eyeing individual awards at the end of the season.

Erling Haaland isn't having an astronomical season as his debut campaign in England, but he still leads the Premier League top scorer's charts with 18 goals.

Haaland not included in top strikers of 2024

However, in an interesting set of statistics collated by Squawka, the Norwegian striker doesn't feature among the top strikers in the division for the 2024 calendar year. He might be the leading scorer of the season, but when other factors are considered, other strikers have bettered him.

Squawka graded only players who have played over 400 minutes of Premier League football this year. Thereafter, metrics like goals scored, non-penalty expected goals, touches in the opposition box, expected assists, chances created, and duels won were used to come up with the list.

Premier League top strikers of 2024

5. Richarlison - Tottenham Hotspur

Richarlison's debut season in England did not go as planned, but he has since stepped up to fill the void left by Harry Kane.

Of the 10 goals he has scored this season, four have come in 441 minutes of action this year before a knee injury in mid-February restricted further involvement.

4. Rodrigo Muniz - Fulham

The Brazilian striker is one of the most in-form players in the division this season. The arrival of Armando Broja in January seems to have sparked a purple patch in him.

He is now up to seven goals for the season, all coming this year.

3. Rasmus Hojlund - Manchester United

It took Rasmus Hojlund 14 games to finally break his duck in England. But when he finally did, he couldn't stop scoring until a muscle injury in late February derailed his momentum.

The Dane was the Premier League's best player for February.

2. Ollie Watkins - Aston Villa

If Gareth Southgate didn't have the dangerman that is Harry Kane leading his line, then there was no doubt that Ollie Watkins had done enough to start at the Euros.

He has been the leading light of Unai Emery's charge for UEFA Champions League football and the Premier League title at some point.

Only Haaland has outscored him, but no Premier League player has been involved directly in goals other than the 28-year-old (16 goals, 10 assists).

1. Darwin Nunez - Liverpool

Darwin Nunez's potential has never been questioned, but his affinity to miss open chances only to score bangers from outside the box always sees him making headlines.

He has five goals this year, including the late dramatic winner against Nottingham Forest. He has 17 goal involvements for the Reds, with only Mohamed Salah bettering that tally.

Clubs with easiest remaining fixtures

Sports Brief has also previously reported on the clubs with the easiest remaining fixtures of the Premier League season.

Liverpool has been adjudged to have the easiest fixtures of the three title contenders, while Brighton have the hardest fixtures.

Arsenal visit Manchester City this weekend in what could be one of the title deciders with the Gunners leading the EPL standings.
