  • Frank Onyeka has been cleared to play for Brentford against Man United
  • The Super Eagles midfielder had to leave camp after sustaining an injury
  • He missed out on the Mali clash after featuring in eight consecutive games

Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka, has reportedly been given the green light to feature in Brentford's upcoming Premier League meeting with Manchester United on March 30.

Speculations had been rife regarding his availability after he left the team's training camp during the international break.

Onyeka and fellow English-based player Calvin Bassey were excused from the Nigeria squad following their international friendly against Ghana.

Both players returned to the United Kingdom, where they continued their rehabilitation in preparation for the penultimate stages of the Premier League season.

Onyeka's return to England was prompted by personal reasons related to administrative matters, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.

Prior to his hiatus, he had been a consistent performer for the Super Eagles, featuring in eight consecutive matches before missing out on the clash against Mali. His contributions to Brentford have also been significant, earning him a regular spot in Thomas Frank's starting lineup.

Onyeka's Nigeria lose 2-0 to Mali

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles faced a setback in their friendly against Mali, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.

Despite expectations of a competitive encounter, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) struggled against a resilient Les Aigles, conceding goals to El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia.

Interim coach Finidi George, addressing the media post-match, attributed the loss to various factors, including the absence of critical strikers due to injury. He stressed the team's efforts to adapt their strategy but acknowledged the ultimate objective of securing victories.

"This team possesses the ball very well, but the absence of our injured strikers forced us to adopt a wider approach. Despite our aggressive play, we were unable to capitalise. As we know, football ultimately revolves around winning," Finidi said, as reported by Nigeria football expert, Tobi Adepoju.

Onyeka picks between Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney

Sports Brief reported that Onyeka shared insights into Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney's qualities.

He is the only midfielder with the privilege of playing with both strikers.

Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United have all been strongly linked to both superstars.
