  • Kalidou Koulibaly has congratulated new president Bassirou Faye
  • The Teranga Lions captain is hoping to meet Senegal's new president
  • The Al-Hilal star led Senegal to back-to-back victories in March

Senegal captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, has disclosed the desire of players of the national team to meet the president-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The 44-year-old emerged victorious from the presidential election in Senegal, defeating the ruling party's Amadou Ba to become the next head of the state of the West African nation.

While he was declared president-elect of Senegal, the Teranga Lions were in action against Gabon and Benin in the international break.

The former African champions won both games, with Mane netting the winner against Benin on Tuesday night in Amiens, Frances.

After the game, Koulibaly congratulated the now youngest president in Africa and insisted the team is hoping to meet him soon.

"We can't wait to meet him," he told Wiw Sport after the game.

Senegal seems to have recovered from the Africa Cup of Nations heartbreak after securing back-to-back victories in March.

“It’s a positive result, we wanted to win these two matches. We leave with two victories. We saw a lot of new players, young players who have great potential and that can help Senegal. We leave with good things. Even if there are things to rectify, we will rectify them,” Koulibaly added.

The 2021 African champions will return to action in June for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against DR Congo and Mauritania, per US Soccerway.

Amara Diouf eyes success with Senegal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that teen sensation, Amara Diouf disclosed his ambitions with Senegal after earning a senior call-up for the international friendlies in March.

The 15-year-old was named in Aliou Cisse's squad for the games against Gabon and Benin as Senegal prepare ahead of June's World Cup qualifiers.

At just 15, Diouf became the youngest player to play for Senegal after making his debut in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda last year.

Faye scores as Senegal beat Gabon

Sports Brief also reported that Barcelona youngster Mikayil Faye scored a fantastic goal as Senegal cruised to a 3-0 victory over Gabon last Friday.

The 19-year-old defender was handed his debut by Aliou Cisse after an impressive campaign with Barcelona's B team.

Faye started as Senegal put behind them a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations by rebuilding a new team with their youngsters in Europe.
