Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend, Doctor Khumalo, has recently expressed his admiration for the emerging talent of Elias Mokwana, while also commending Hugo Broos for his keen eye in identifying promising players.

The 24-year-old winger debuted for the South African national team during the recent international break, marking his presence with notable performances in matches against Andorra and Algeria.

Khumalo couldn't help but shower praise on Mokwana, describing him as a 'diamond', unearthed by his national coach, Broos.

In both games, Mokwana showcased his fearlessness in taking on defenders, displaying a positive attitude and a willingness to drive forward. His contributions were evident, including scoring a crucial equaliser against Andorra and playing a part in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Algeria.

Khumalo stressed the importance of players like these, who can challenge defenders directly, citing their role in creating opportunities on the field. He also expressed his delight in witnessing his skills and his potential to become a valuable asset for the national team in future.

"Hugo should be proud of himself because he found a diamond now in Mokwana. There is nothing I like more than a wing player who can challenge defenders directly," he said on SABC3, as reported by iDiski Times.

While praising Broos for discovering the youngster, Khumalo also expressed curiosity about other emerging talents, hinting at the depth of talent within South African football.

Mokwana's journey to the national team spotlight began when he joined Sekhukhune United from Platinum City in July 2022. Since then, he has significantly contributed to his club, scoring goals and providing assists.

Broos introduced 10 new players into his 23-man squad for the FIFA Series friendlies.

As reported by Goal, the 71-year-old is linked with the Tunisia national coaching role, following the departure of Jalel Kadri due to the Carthage Eagles' poor outing at the 2023 AFCON.

Broos addresses Tunisia job speculation

Sports Brief also previously reported that Broos broke his silence the Tunisian job amid rumours linking him with the country's national team.

The former Club Brugge coach gave assurances to South Africans that he would still be Bafana's coach in their 2026 FIFA qualifiers in June.

South Africa's next game would be against the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Zimbabwe as they seek a place in the World Cup tournament.
