The City defender could only last just nine minutes into the encounter before he was replaced by Joe Gomez.

According to Metro UK, the 29-year-old appeared to jar his leg after he slipped on the wet pitch following a poor touch.

His apparent injury came just days ahead of City's crucial Premier League clash with table toppers Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's charges are scheduled to host the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, March 31, in a possible title decider.

Will John Stones feature vs Arsenal?

Southgate has since provided an injury update on Stones, with the England head coach disclosing he is unsure of its severity.

Speaking after his side's 2-2 draw with the Red Devils, the Englishman said:

"But of course, we’re disappointed if he’s got a problem. It seems to be in the adductor area. We’ll just have to see," Southgate said.
"John also came in on the back of not having played for two weeks so it wasn’t an overload situation," he added.

Meanwhile, the news on Stones' fitness is a blow to Pep Guardiola, with the Spaniard already sweating over the fitness of Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji.

City, who are keen to defend the Premier League crown, currently sit third with 63 points, a point behind the Gunners.

Fans' fury after John Stones injury

At the same time, Sports Brief reported that fans expressed their fury after Stones was forced off with an injury against Belgium.

The England international had lasted just nine minutes before he picked up a freak injury.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
