  • Cristiano Ronaldo fumed at the fourth official after Portugal's loss to Slovenia
  • Portugal put in a poor performance to record their first loss under Roberto Martinez
  • They begin their Euro 2024 campaign on June 18 against the Czech Republic

Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly frustrated with the referee following Portugal's unexpected loss to Slovenia on March 26.

The 2016 Euro Champions travelled to Ljubljana to play the host nation in an international friendly game. Head Coach, Roberto Martinez, hoped to continue his winning streak since he took over the team last year.

The Spaniard rang up wholesome changes from the squad that beat Sweden in Guimaraes last week. A couple of players led by Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias were allowed to return to their clubs.

Ronaldo, who missed that game, returned to the fold but did little to conjure up a positive result as the 55th-ranked nation by FIFA ran out as victors thanks to second-half goals from Adam Gnezda Cerin and Timi Max Elsnik.

Ronaldo confronts referee

After the final whistle, Ronaldo did not stick around for pleasantries and stormed down the tunnel. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was spotted lashing out at the fourth official as he passed him in the dugout.

Multiple outlets report that the Al-Nassr striker was frustrated after the officials denied Portugal two penalties in the game.

Martinez and his side will need to regroup ahead of a busy summer once the European season is over. They will play three friendly games against Finald, Croatia and Ireland in June before beginning their Euros campaign against the Czech Republic on June 18.

They will then face Turkey and first-time qualifiers Georgia in the rest of their Group F fixtures.

Ferdinand: Why Thierry Henry doesn't like Ronaldo

Sports Brief has also reported that Rio Ferdinand disclosed why Thierry Henry doesn't like Ronaldo.

Henry is said never to have rated the former Real Madrid striker highly despite his immense successes over the years.

Ferdinand believes the issue started after Ronaldo scored a brace for Manchester United against Henry's Arsenal in 2005.
