  • Amankwah Forson has made his Ghana national team debut
  • The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder featured against Nigeria
  • The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Super Eagles

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, has heaped praises on Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, Amankwah Forson, after an impressive display on his Ghana debut.

The 21-year-old made his first appearance for the Ghana national team in the friendly game against Nigeria in Marrakech, Morocco.

Forson started and produced glimpses of quality with his deft touches and incisive ball-passing ability before he was later replaced by Kassim Nuhu.

Coach Addo was forced to take off the Salzburg player following Jerome Opoku's red card on the hour mark.

"He was really, really good. I mean he is a young guy, very good positioning, very firm on the ball and solid on the ball. If he would be a little bit more self-conscious in certain situations he could have finished himself I think," he said after the game, as quoted by the FA's official website.
"But it’s really, really impressive for a young guy to step up against a strong Nigerian team and be so self-conscious with the ball, good positioning, also working hard defensively is really, really good. I think we have someone we can look up to in the coming years," he added.

The former West Africa Football Academy player will be hoping to add another appearance to his Black Stars career when Ghana faces Uganda on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in a very competitive game on Friday, Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 to end a 16-year wait for a win over their arch-rivals, as reported by Complete Sports.

Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring from the spot in the first half before Ademola Lookman doubled the advantage later in the second half.

Jordan Ayew scored a last-gasp consolation for the Black Stars.

Nigeria beat Ghana in friendly

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigeria defeated arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly in Morocco after Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman scored at either side of the half before a late consolation from Jordan Ayew.

The Super Eagles made their intentions clear early in the game after Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho forced goalkeeper Lawrence At Zigi into a brilliant save.

Iheanacho was again denied by a defensive block following a quick interchange of passes with Fulham's Alex Iwobi.
