Ghana's new head coach Otto Addo has exuded confidence ahead of their friendly match against Nigeria's Super Eagles this evening.

The encounter marks Addo's third time facing the Super Eagles as a coach, having previously led the Black Stars to securing a spot in the Qatar 2022 World Cup during the playoffs.

In a press conference on Thursday, March 21, Addo said his team had analysed their opponents and were ready for what would be brought to the table.

“I think they have a very, very strong squad. But we know what we can do and we know how to play against such a host and even though they went to the final, they showed in some matches that they are vulnerable so anything can happen," he said, as quoted by Complete Sports.

Reflecting on Nigeria's performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Addo acknowledged their strength in offensive transitions and highlighted their fast-paced wingers and strong forwards. He, however, remained optimistic about his team's chances, stressing their familiarity with the opponents' style of play.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles interim coach, Finidi George, shared insights into his team's mindset ahead of the showdown in Morocco.

Finidi pointed out the significance of the longstanding rivalry between the two West African nations as a motivating factor for his players.

“The team is prepared, they know what is at stake that rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana is always there, and that is an extra motivation for the players,” Finidi said, as reported by Daily Post Nigeria.

He acknowledged past criticisms of the team's defensive approach and hinted at subtle tactical adjustments while focusing on ball retention and quick transitions.

Finidi sends warning to Addo's Ghana

Sports Brief reported that Finidi had warned the Black Stars ahead of their friendly tie.

He believes the match is beyond 'friendly' due to the rivalry between the two nations.

The Super Eagles seem to be on the rise after reaching the final of the 2023 AFCON, where they lost to hosts Ivory Coast in the final.
