  • Nigeria locks horns with Ghana in a friendly match this week
  • Nigeria's Alex Iwobi has weighed in on the huge encounter
  • Nigeria vs Ghana is one of the biggest rivalries in football

Nigeria and Ghana will renew their rivalry on Friday in a highly anticipated friendly clash in Morocco.

Both nations are playing for the first time since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Fulham and Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi is looking forward to the encounter, which is massive in Africa.

The 27-year-old was heavily criticised after Nigeria were beaten in the final of the 2023 AFCON by Ivory Coast. The midfielder archived all his Instagram posts as a result.

The game against Ghana is an opportunity for Iwobi and Nigeria to bounce back after that painful defeat on February 11.

The former Arsenal star knows the importance of their match against Ghana, probably their biggest football rival.

“It’s a game against one of our rivals, a nation that is close to us, so we will give our hundred percent and try and to get a good result,” he said via Complete Sports.

Ghana and Nigeria fans had heated arguments on social media during the 2023 AFCON. The Black Stars were trolled for failing to make it out of their group for the second tournament in a row, per The Athletic.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaians taunted Nigeria for losing the final against Ivory Coast. The two West African nations have won seven AFCON titles in their history.

The Black Stars have not tasted AFCON glory in nearly half a century, while the Super Eagles last won the title in 2013.

Iwobi sets Premier League record

Sports Brief earlier reported on Iwobi reaching a new career milestone in the Premier League after scoring in Fulham's 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

His goal saw him reach five league goals for the first time in his career. His previous best in the Premier League was in the 2018/19 season when he scored three in 35 matches.

Finidi George's warning to Ghana

Sports Brief earlier reported on Nigeria's interim coach, Finidi George, sending a warning to Ghana ahead of their friendly encounter.

The AFCON winner, who was part of Jose Peseiro's coaching staff, said his team is taking their match against Ghana seriously and are looking for a positive result.
