The West African giants have been looking for a new coach after Peseiro's departure earlier this month.

The former Ajax winger was part of Peseiro's staff and now has a chance to impress in the upcoming friendlies. The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions will face Ghana and Mali in Morocco, per GOAL.

The Champions League winner was reportedly one of the applicants for the coaching role and could be considered if Nigeria wins the two games.

Adepoju is happy for his teammate.

“Just learning that my brother and colleague Finidi George has been appointed interim head coach of Nigeria Super Eagles,” Adepoju wrote on Facebook.
“Big news and massive congratulations from me.
“Here’s wishing you the best of success.”

Adepoju and Geroge were part of the Super Eagles team that won the 1994 AFCON. The 53-year-old is considered a pioneer for Nigerian players in Spain in the 1990s.

Finidi George's warning to Mali, Ghana

Sports Brief earlier reported on Finidi George sending a warning to Ghana and Mali ahead of their friendly clashes.

The 52-year-old is taking the friendly seriously since it is their first match since the 2023 AFCON final, which they lost to Ivory Coast.

He reiterated the importance of making Nigerians proud and getting good results in the matches.

Finidi George backed to replace Peseiro?

Sports Brief also reported that some Super Eagles players have backed Finidi George to take over from Jose Peseiro.

The players reportedly want George because of his knowledge of the team since he was part of the team during Peseiro's 22-month tenure with the team. Moreover, the players want the former Real Betis winger because of the continuity.
