Bayer Leverkusen is the best club in Europe, if a unique stat is anything to go by.

The German club has defied the odds in the 2023/24 campaign, going on a frightening unbeaten run and setting themselves in pole position to win a maiden Bundesliga title.

Xabi Alonso’s side maintained their 10-point lead at the top of the table thanks to a 3-2 win over SC Freiburg on March 17 as they edged closer to the title at the expense of Bayern Munich, per the BBC.

It is no more than what the club will deserve, considering the results they have managed to churn out this season.

Leverkusen’s performances have been so impressive that they sit in a league of their own in terms of the average points per game.

As cited by LiveScore, Alonso's charges have earned at least a point in every single league game they have played this season, giving them an impressive ratio of 2.69 points per game.

Sports Brief now looks at how other top clubs compare to the German giants in that regard.

Clubs with highest points-to-game ratios

10. Stuttgart, 2.15 points per game

Sitting in third place on the log, Stuttgart have outdone themselves this season, and this is evident from their average points per game.

9. Barcelona, 2.21 points per game

The defending La Liga champions are almost certain to surrender the title to arch-rivals, Real Madrid.

But since Xavi announced he would leave the club, the Catalan giants have experienced a resurgence and currently sit eight points behind Los Blancos.

8. Manchester City, 2.25 points per game

Last season’s treble winners are being pushed to their limits this season in all competitions.

Not only are they toe-to-toe with Liverpool and Arsenal in the title race, the Citizens are also embroiled in a battle to reclaim the FA Cup and Champions League.

In the league, City have lost three games and sit one point behind leaders, Arsenal, who have a slightly better points-per-game ratio.

7. Paris Saint Germain, 2.27 points per game

The French giants have not hit the heights that they have done in recent years, but Luis Enrique’s side is still doing enough to be on course to win Ligue 1.

Their 59 points from 26 matches gives them a 2.27 points per game ratio, which is a decent number for a title contender.

6. Liverpool, 2.29 points per game

Jurgen Klopp is looking to leave Liverpool with a bang, and his side is proving to be very competitive in his last season in charge.

The Reds are also a point behind Arsenal at the top of the table and have only been beaten twice in the league.

5. Arsenal, 2.29 points per game

The Gunners have the same ratio as Liverpool, despite losing four games in the league.

Mikel Arteta’s side, however, has won the most games in the division this season.

4. Bayern Munich, 2.31 points per game

The fact that Bayern have a better points-per-game ratio than all three title contenders in the Premier League tells you all you need to know about the level of competition in the Bundesliga.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have won 19 of their 26 Bundesliga games, which is quite impressive but not quite good enough.

3. Real Madrid, 2.48 points per game

Now this is a team that knows a thing or two about winning football matches.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side has been almost flawless this season, winning 22 of their 29 league games so far and losing only once.

2. Inter Milan, 2.62 points per game

Another winning machine in Europe this season has been Simeone Izaghi’s Inter.

The Nerazzuri have been a level above the rest of the pack in Italy’s top flight, winning 24 out of their 29 league games played. They have lost just once all season and sit 14 points clear at the top.

1. Bayer Leverkusen, 2.69 points per game

As mentioned earlier, the number 1 spot belongs to Bayer Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s side has been on a frightening unbeaten run this season, and this has helped them manage an impressive 2.69 points per game, more than any other club in Europe.

Managers in contention for Bayern job

Sports Brief also highlighted four potential managers who could take over at Bayern Munich amid Thomas Tuchel’s impending exit.

The Bavarians' director of sports, Max Eberl, ruled out Liverpool boss, Klopp, who will leave England after the 2023/24 season is over.
